Investigating infant feeding strategies at Roman Bainesse through Bayesian modelling of incremental dentine isotopic data

چکیده

We present the first study employing Bayesian modelling of isotopic measurements on dentine increments (five human upper molars) to address Romano-British infant feeding practices at Bainesse (UK). The stable carbon and nitrogen isotope results modelled 6-month intervals with novel OsteoBioR software revealed some common patterns, weaning not starting before age 6 months higher animal protein consumption after seven. latter possibly indicated a ‘survival’ threshold, evidenced by historical sources osteological data, hence marking rise in social status children. important role as commercial hub relation fort Cataractonium does exclude priori possibility that medical treatises Roman culture were known site. However, our also showed significant intra-individual differences cessation taking place between 2 5 years, suggesting these followed only partially other aspects influenced family decisions Bainesse.

Strategies for feeding the preterm infant.

According to many experts in neonatal nutrition, the goal for nutrition of the preterm infant should be to achieve a postnatal growth rate approximating that of the normal fetus of the same gestational age. Unfortunately, most preterm infants, especially those born very preterm with extremely low birth weight, are not fed sufficient amounts of nutrients to produce normal fetal rates of growth a...

Scaling Bayesian Network Discovery Through Incremental Recovery

Bayesian networks are a type of graphical models that, e.g., allow one to analyze the interaction among the variables in a database. A well-known problem with the discovery of such models from a database is the “problem of high-dimensionality”. That is, the discovery of a network from a database with a moderate to large number of variables quickly becomes intractable. Most solutions towards thi...

Social Contexts of Infant Feeding and Infant Feeding Decisions.

BACKGROUND Infant feeding takes place within a network of social relationships. However, the social context in which infant feeding advice is received remains underresearched. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to evaluate the social contexts of infant feeding by examining individual and relationship characteristics of mothers and network members associated with advice to exclusively b...
